Any pregnancy decision you make, in some way, will change you. So, it’s important to step back, do your research, and think about what is best for you. Without pressure. Without judgment. You deserve to take the time to be confident in your choice! Little Way can be that safe place for you. It’s important to consider a few things as you make your plan.
Here is an ABORTION TREATMENT CHECKLIST that you may find helpful.
√ Is my pregnancy viable? Am I likely to miscarry?
Be sure to have an ultrasound to confirm that you have a viable pregnancy in your uterus. Even if you had a previous
ultrasound, it’s important to have one just prior to the abortion, as 1 in 5 pregnancies end in natural miscarriage. Make appointment at Little Way (includes a free ultrasound).
√ How far along am I?
Accurate gestational dating is necessary for prescribing abortion procedures. An ultrasound is your best tool. Little Way
can provide an ultrasound at no cost. Make appointment.
√ The Abortion Pill is FDA approved up to 70 days (10 weeks) or less from first day of LMP.
After 10 weeks, the complication rate for women increases and the incomplete abortion rate rises. This is why accurate
dating of pregnancy is so important. Providers who prescribe these medications are certified and must adhere to strict
guidelines, because of the risk of serious complications.
√ Do not buy the Abortion Pill or its approved generic over the internet.
You will bypass important safeguards designed to protect your health. These drugs have special safety restrictions on
how they are distributed. Drugs purchased from foreign internet sources are not the FDA-approved versions of the drugs
and are not subjected to FDA-regulated manufacturing controls or FDA inspection of manufacturing facilities. (source
FDA 12/16/21). Pharmacies must be certified to dispense. Ask your health care provider and pharmacy if they are
certified in Mifepristone REMS (Risk evaluation & Mitigation Strategy) Program.
√ Make sure that the clinician takes a detailed health history and performs medical screenings & STI testing.
Many important factors can affect the safety of the procedure for you, including past pregnancies, family history,
circulatory disorders, allergies, anemia, RH factor, etc. The abortion clinic should also screen for sexually transmitted
infections (STI) prior to the abortion, as an untreated STI could cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which can
lead to permanent infertility or worse. Little Way can provide STI Testing (and Treatment if needed) at no cost.
√ Insist on knowing the name and credentials of the person performing the abortion.
In some states, the abortionist does not have to be a doctor. To protect your interests in case of injury, know your
abortion provider’s name and make sure he or she is a licensed, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. Ensure
that the consult prior to the abortion is also performed by a licensed professional.
√ You have the right to change your mind at any point and may demand your money back, even if you are already
on the table.
If you are feeling uneasy about your decision or the abortion facility or staff you have chosen, you have the right to
leave at any time requesting and expecting a full refund. Trust your instincts. Do not be influenced by those who may
be profiting from your decision.
√ If you regret your choice after taking the first abortion pill, there is an effective program called Abortion Pill
Reversal. It may not be too late. Call or text us. 502.354.7467 Time is of the essence. Women have a right to
change their minds.
√ Understand that there are two types of abortions: surgical and medical (an incomplete medical abortion may
need a surgical abortion).
Make sure that your provider explains both the medical and surgical procedures and all side effects and risks prior to
the procedure. This is an important step in making your plan. Little Way can provide this information to you. Make
appointment at Little Way to discuss procedures, risks and side effects.
√ Understand your legal rights before and after your abortion.
Some abortionists insist that patients sign a statement saying they will not hold the abortion clinic or the doctor liable
for damages in case of injury. However, this document has minimal legal authority. If you are physically or
emotionally injured by abortion, you always retain your right to seek financial compensation in a court of law, no
matter what form(s) you signed.
√ Make sure you know what to do and have a number to call if you should have complications from the abortion.
Complications may include a fever, excessive bleeding, incomplete abortions, etc. Find out whether the abortion
provider has a 24-hour hotline, hospital admitting privileges, and what services they will be able to offer you in the
event of an emergency. Understand the process to ensure abortion is complete and all fetal parts and tissue have been
removed.
As you can see, there is a lot to think about. Little Way can be that place to sort through your thoughts as well as to get the information and medical services you need prior to making your plan: pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, abortion information, STI testing and Treatment – all at no costs to you!
